Business streamlining is the best thing that you can do in order to keep your costs as low as possible and maintain the highest productivity in your business.
In any business, you need to have a good look at the processes already in place; that is, the series of tasks that employees complete to meet a specific
goal.
You need to identify whether all employees complete all tasks in the same way or is one person responsible for specific tasks? Are these processes
written down or do people "just know" what to do?
Documentation is vital to business streamlining, especially when you have new employees beginning in a current business.
Documentation includes written documents on how to complete certain tasks within an organisation. For each individual task that has to be completed
in a business, create a work process and document.
The first step is to define a single work process. Break the process down into as many discrete steps as possible. Use this process to question the
way in which you do a particular task. Is your method efficient? Is there a specific reason for the continued use of your current method? Is there any
way in which your current processes can be improved in any way. Add images or create a flowchart if appropriate and ensure that the documentation is
specific.
Constant reviews of documentation and business processes is necessary to ensure that they remain current and haven't changed in any way. However, you need to ensure that a reasonable period of time has passed after processes are put in place, before evaluating.
